Handheld PDA in the Railway Inspection Industry

In today’s fast-paced world, rail inspection has become an important aspect of the rail industry. To ensure safe and efficient railway operations, a reliable and comprehensive system is essential. One technology that has proven very beneficial in this regard is the handheld PDA terminal. They are designed to withstand harsh environments and are therefore particularly suitable for industries such as railways where equipment is subjected to rough handling on a daily basis.

The Australian Railways Corporation (ARTC) is a government-owned company that manages Australia’s rail infrastructure. The organization implemented a sophisticated railroad inspection system that relied on handheld PDA terminals. The system allows ARTC inspectors to take photos, record data and update records anytime, anywhere. The information collected is used to identify issues that need to be addressed and immediate action is taken to avoid delays or safety hazards.

Advantages:
1) The inspector completes the specified items at the point, and quickly collects the operating status and data of the equipment.
2) Set inspection lines, make reasonable line arrangement and achieve standardized daily work management.
3) Real-time sharing of the inspection data, management and control departments can easily query the inspection situation through the network, providing managers with timely, accurate and effective decision -making reference data.
4) Inspection sign via NFC, and GPS positioning function display the staff’s position, and they can initiate the staff’s dispatch command at any time ti make the inspection follow the standardized route.
5) In special cased, you can directly upload the situation to the center by means of graphic , videos, etc. and communicate with control department in time to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

SFT Handheld UHF Reader (SF516) is designed to withstand environmental factors such as explosive gas, moisture, shock and vibration, etc. The UHF Mobile Read/Write Reader consists of an integrated antenna, rechargeable/replicable big capacity battery.

Data communication between reader and application host (typically any PDA) is done by Bluetooth or WiFi. Software maintenance can also be done via an USB port. The complete reader is integrated into an ergonomically shaped ABS housing, super rugged. When the trigger switch is activated, any tags in the beam will be read, and the reader will transmit the codes via the BT/WiFi link to the host controller. This reader allows the railway user to do remote registration and inventory control and process the data in real time as long as it remains in BT/WiFi range of the host controller. Onboard Memory and Real Time Clock capability allows for off-line data processing.
